Fashion Week Murder Mystery Filled with Love, Loss, and Hope
Paris Connection Movie Review
Paris Connection is a gripping story of grief, loss and healing. It is also a meditation on the bonds of love and friendship.
Journalist Madison Castelli is enticed to Paris when she learns that a model she interviewed has been murdered. She soon finds herself embroiled in a mystery that connects her to other victims of the attack.
Adapted from a novel by Jackie Collins
The top-selling British novelist Jackie Collins has finally fulfilled a lifetime ambition: to make her own movie. The result is Paris Connections, a direct-to-DVD movie based on her L.A. Connections series of books, starring Trudie Styler and Charles Dance. The film also includes a screenplay by the author, who serves as a co-producer.
The movie revolves around Madison Castelli, a journalist who investigates the murder of Size Zero models. The story’s setting in fashion week adds a glamorous and intriguing backdrop, making the movie more than just a typical crime thriller.
Alice Winocour’s adaptation of her own book combines compassion and insight into a compelling drama that is as much about the people who live in Paris as it is about the city itself. It is a story of lives lived in the shadows, lives that don’t need communal torment or headlines to be seen and celebrated. The story is a reminder that the world can be an ugly place, but there are still places where beauty and hope persist.
Thriller
In the midst of Paris fashion week, a model is murdered. Journalist Madison Castelli, certain it’s not the “crime of passion” the French press is claiming, travels to Paris to follow up on the story. While there, she meets photographer Jake Sica.
A meaty, export-ready true crime saga, this slick and glossy film packs a serious punch, thanks to the director’s classy casting of some of France’s most chiselled jaws. Celine Sallette’s Mia is the standout, but even more valuable is the way in which Benoit Magimel embodies the killer.
With sober PTSD drama and acute character study, this Paris-set movie from writer/director Alice Winocour is gripping. It’s also an emotionally intelligent work that eschews dramatic fireworks for more observational moments, like the survivor whose text messages give her some sense of connection to the victims in this otherwise fragmented account of the Bataclan massacre. The result is a powerful and moving tale of how one wrong turn can lead you in the right direction.
Romance
Paris, the City of Lights is known as one of the most romantic cities in the world. Its quaint streets, majestic architecture, and charming people make it perfect for romance movies.
A murder at the start of fashion week adds intrigue and glamour to this witty romance set in Paris. The film’s protagonist, Madison Castelli, is an investigative journalist whose investigation into the case leads her to believe that the murder is more than a crime of passion.
Left without her luggage, ticket, cell phone or hope of reuniting with Simon, Hannah must spend the day in Paris before her next train to Amsterdam. Fortunately, she meets Leo, a handsome and infuriating Frenchman who is also stranded in the city. As they spend the day together, Hannah discovers that her unexpected detour might be leading her to the life she was meant to live.
Comedy
At the start of Paris fashion week a beautiful young model is brutally murdered. Investigative journalist Madison Castelli, certain that the murder is more than just a crime of passion, travels to Paris to follow up on her lead.
The movie aims to show the aftershocks of the attack and how it affected people’s lives. It is a story about hope, love and life after tragedy. It stars Mia, a translator, and Thomas, a man physically injured in the attacks. Mia is a reserved and logical person who finds new, perhaps fleeting succor with Thomas.
Although it has a few good points like the beautiful scenery and great acting by Nicole Steinwedell and Anthony Delon, it is not a good film overall. It lacks the thrill and mystery of other French films. But if you are looking for a fun, light-hearted romantic comedy then this is the movie for you. It’s a feel-good story of how the wrong path can sometimes lead to your heart’s desires.
